Mavis Tech set to transform the lives of blind and partially sighted people
A historic leap has been made with the latest innovative assistive technology for the 2 million blind and partially sighted people living in the UK. The NEW revolutionary AI Smart Glasses, Mavis Viaro and Mavis Itero will help reduce barriers to accessibility for blind and low vision people, enabling greater independence, confidence and freedom in everyday life. The glasses combine cutting edge artificial intelligence, environmental awareness, navigation and a level of intuitive assistance that is second to none.

The Mavis Viaro and Mavis Itero Smart Glasses, available in two aesthetic styles, benefit from:
- Obstacle detection: Detecting obstacles including obstructions at head height
- Environmental awareness:Describing surroundings
- Navigation: Guiding users with turn-by-turn instructions
- Reading and information access:Reading printed text aloud
- Facial recognition: Identifying familiar faces
- Communication:Making and receiving calls and messages
- Remote assistance:Allowing friends or family to assist through the video calling

Both pairs of glasses include a forward-facing camera used for scene analysis, face recognition, and text reading. Distance sensors continuously monitor the space in front of the user to detect obstacles.
Microphones capture voice commands, while speakers provide clear spoken feedback. A vibration motor or buzzer provides haptic alerts, which are especially useful in noisy environments.
All interactions are designed to be handsfree, using simple button presses and voice commands.
Designed due to the lived experience of visually impaired computer scientist and engineer, founder David Sikharulidze, the glasses will provide a powerful assistive tool. Over two million people in the UK are affected by some level of sight loss* and this rigorously tested, breakthrough technology could be the solution.
Sikharulidze said: “Motivated by my own experience as a visually impaired person, I wanted to empower others to gain more independence.

“I have lived my whole life with severe visual impairment, and I have been visiting ophthalmologists every six months since early childhood. I started my education with a nursing diploma, then went on to study Computing and Engineering, followed by a Masters in IT Management and Cyber Security. After much research, I thought that maybe I can build something that compensates for what the eye can’t do as I knew I could never improve my eyesight, but I could help it. What started as a thesis, has become a real business.
“My mission for Mavis Technologies is clear, we want to become one of the leading manufacturers of assistive smart glasses – and to empower visually impaired individuals with independence, dignity, and confidence.”
Mavis Vario and Mavis Itero Smart Glasses have been available since 7th April 2026.
