The Art of Twelve at LUNA Omakase

About a year back in Spring 2025, Kensington and Chelsea Review welcomed the news  of a new star on the London dining scene.  Luna Omakase emerged as a new 12-seat restaurant from the team behind Los Mochis and Juno Omakase. Regally located on the 9th floor of Los Mochis London City, Luna Omakase features a 12-course tasting menu showcasing Sosaku-style Edomae Omakase, a modern interpretation of traditional Edomae sushi.   Executive Head Chef Leonard Tanyag boasts 20 years of experience and global travels that have led to a  meticulous, personal touch to traditional omakase dining, which translates as ‘I’ll leave it up to you’ or ‘chef’s choice.’

It differs significantly from its sister restaurant, Juno – the world’s first and only Mexican-Japanese omakase.  At Luna, the 12-course daily changing tasting menu highlights the finest seasonal ingredients and sustainable seafood, expertly shaped by Tanyag’s visionary energy,  It is a deftly-planned journey of flavours, from delicate, mellow bites building to bold, umami-rich dishes, masterfully paired with sake, wine, or cocktails.   It is mindful eating at its finest with a touch of art that adorns its magnificent walls and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame views of St Paul’s Cathedral and the London skyline.  A soft glow of ambient lighting highlights custom artwork by Oms Rocha, a series of 12 circular paintings.  This ‘twelve connection’ is beautifully encapsulated in a 12 minute movie online, appropriately titled The Art of Twelve,  that perfectly embodies Luna’s sustainable ideals and artistic connections.

The theatre of fine dining at LUNA is an incredible experience such that, even the frantic jottings on my iPhone seem to read like poetry!  All cuts of meat and fish are of the highest quality and I can safely say that the tahini scallop with mescal worm was the best I’ve ever had.  Dishes were paired with top-notch sake, wine or 0%, as per diners’ choice, with a dedicated sommelier to guide the patron through  tasting notes, and some of the bottles exclusively available at @losmochislondon.  With seamless service and an inspirational lunar theme for dishes and décor, this is the perfect spot for a special anniversary or work event.  Other highlights included Torched sea trout, Round onigiri with charcoal, Soya rizla wraps (so much fun!), Jamón tuna carpaccio, Sandwich tapioca starch & potato – favoured by a lot of my co-diners,  Japanese ice shaver – chamomile and blood orange like Mr Frosty and the finish with Fruit pastille  like the waning moon and Hot custard blancmange with wasabi ice cream.  Pretty much everything on the menu.

The Art of Twelve from LUNA also extends to other very exciting collaborations such as the one last summer with Michelin-starred Chef Taro Noguchi of Osaka’s Noguchi restaurant featuring the finest fresh fish and seafood alongside some of the rarest Japanese whiskies.
