Bridal bouquets are a sentimental keepsake from your wedding day, encapsulating the colours, emotions and fragrant memories of a timeless moment. Bridal Editor Emily Cotterhill speaks to Madeeco about the exquisite craftsmanship behind their preserved floral frames.
1. What sparked your idea to create Madeeco?
Madeeco began in 2018 with a simple intention: to slow down and live more sustainably. What started as a small collection of thoughtful, eco-friendly products soon evolved as our creative director, a long-time flower lover, began pressing and preserving flowers to pause and find calm alongside a busy career in healthcare. Then came a turning point: a bride asked if we could preserve her wedding bouquet. We said yes, shared the finished piece on Instagram, and the response was overwhelming. Suddenly, requests poured in from couples wanting to preserve their flowers. At the time, bouquet preservation was relatively new in the UK wedding space. Many couples didn’t realise this was even a possibility, and it opened up a new meaningful way of remembering their special day.
2. What is the process for preserving a wedding bouquet?
We receive bouquets from across the country, including many from London-based couples. After the wedding day, flowers are carefully packaged and posted to our studio using a step-by-step guide we provide at booking. Once received, the flowers are assessed and preserved using a blend of traditional and modern techniques tailored to achieve the best outcome. Next comes the design phase, where the bouquet is reimagined as a timeless piece of art. Many couples tell us it becomes the first artwork they own together, which makes it even more special. It’s a slow craft that unfolds over several months, with each stage approached with care and attention to detail.
3. What are your most popular preservation and framing styles?
Our shadowbox frames are by far the most loved, especially our signature designs that combine flat and 3D florals for texture and depth. They’re classic yet detailed and designed to stand the test of time. Linen backdrops are another favourite, offering a soft, natural finish that complements the organic beauty of preserved flowers. Whether someone prefers romantic and classic or sleek and minimal, there’s a design to suit.
4. What floral trends do you predict for the summer 2025 wedding season?
We are seeing more couples choose locally grown, seasonal flowers that reflect both the landscape and the time of year. These flowers tend to preserve beautifully, too. Bold colour palettes and variety-filled arrangements are also gaining popularity, with lots of texture, movement, and asymmetry. Couples are moving away from traditional, uniform shapes in favour of expressive, personal designs. Mindsets are shifting as well. More couples are thinking beyond the wedding day when it comes to their wedding flowers and preserving their bouquet as a keepsake reflects a growing interest in sustainability and meaningful, handcrafted art.
5. What other eco-friendly gifts do you offer at Madeeco?
While wedding bouquet preservation is at the heart of Madeeco, we also welcome commissions beyond the big day, whether it’s an anniversary bouquet, flowers with personal meaning or a recreated bouquet. We are also open to creative collaborations. A past highlight was designing a sustainable bridal gown featuring a pressed flower waistband. Every piece tells a story, and it’s an honour to help bring those stories to life through floral art. Aside from flower preservation, we have a small range of sustainable products, many inspired by our floral artwork. From hand-embroidered linen pouches and shoulder bags to bookmarks and stationery, everything is designed to be both practical and rooted in nature.
