The prime artist on display at the moment is Greg Deda (b. 1965), an internationally acclaimed Canadian artist and set designer based in Toronto and New York. Deda is known for his vast collections of magic realism and abstract, semi- abstract works. In 1996 Greg Deda studied at the Scuola Dei Beni Culturali (Now the University of Salento) in Italy. Deda was deeply inspired by frescoes painted by the great maestros of the early to late renaissance period (Michelangelo, Botticelli and Mantegna). He later explored the art of the post Berlin Wall Era attending Kunst Schule in Germany where he met then emerging and established artists such as Gerhard Richter and Jörg Immendorff
.
Deda’s exhibitions are internationally recognised, with shows in Turin, Dusseldorf, Munich, New York, Toronto, and London. His body of magic realism artwork has earned a place in both private and public collections admired for his dreamlike and ambiguous atmosphere with its capacity to evoke emotional responses. Deda’s private and public collections of magical realism are one of the most unique works in modern day art today, each conveying and expressing multi-sensory themes and perspectives, designed to emotionally awaken his audience. Themes of altering societies, illusions, roman mythology, ambiguous nature and architecture are staged in his mysterious scenes and detailed compositions. Deda’s abstract collections vary in a spectrum of abstract, abstract expressionism and semi-abstract, connecting to the subconscious of the mind, architecture (both old and modern) and nature taking inspiration from trees, leaves, rivers, sand etc.

Highlights at the Chelsea Gallery include A New Beginning A new beginning, completed from 2022 – 2024, oil on canvas, depicts a new start, the composition is a magic realist, post modern realism collection. The painting features a diverse range of texture and technique from the realism achieved in the four collective group of women. The background contrasts this realism with a dynamic layering of techniques. Abstract drips cascade behind the figures, evoking movement, ambiance and the passing of time, while fresco-like textures hint at the worn beauty of a decaying brick structure, a symbol of foundations both literal and metaphorical. These textures embrace the memory embedded in place, capturing the rustic remains of a once-solid architectural past.

Another is“Artist’s Studio: A Day in the Life”, 2022 is a self-portrait that places the artist at the left-centre of the composition, capturing his studio, surrounded by the tools of his craft: tubes of oil, acrylic paint, a large, vibrant colour palette, and well-used brushes. The work not only portrays his physical likeness but also offers insight into his identity and artistic thought process. It reveals the reality of his creative world, where imagination, discipline, and aspiration merge during the making of each individual painting.
