STRAND BY ME

Much like the World’s End in Chelsea, the end of the Strand around Somerset House feels like the end of London in some ways.  The iconic thoroughfare takes a sharp turn around this hallowed point and the river Thames seems to veer off to the distant East.  On the totemic scale of excitement and happenings-on,  this junction of Covent Garden and the West End is the epitome of Central London.  Nestled elegantly amongst this cauldron of activity is ME London, a five star hotel that aims to please and pleases as per your desire.  Almost surreptitiously  housed in the iconic Marconi building, it is a chameleon of a property that is an apposite setting for everything from arts and culture to fashion and business.  The F&B offerings are of the highest standards and the will staff amaze you with their care and concern.  ME London is a  five-star luxury hotel in the truest sense with a wonderfully varied selection of stylish and well-appointed guest rooms and suites

Modernity is the keyword at ME and panoramic views of London abound within its urban-chic ambience.  Marble and granite floors embellish the inherent opulence and candles light up the moody minimalism.  There are quite a few mesmerising bits to the ME experience and the first one is the reception area within the atrium which houses a marble pyramid which magically funnels out all the way through to the roof of the hotel – close to a hundred metres via a sunroof – whilst you sip on bubbles, easing through check-in.  We went during Christmas and there was a fantastic light show beaming up all across its triangular perimetre.  This perfect welcome to the property is duly followed by effusive ticks all over the property.  The staff are immaculately trained to please, modern rooms showcase technology and comfort and a relaxed yet party atmosphere pervades all around.  The food and beverage options further up the stakes with STK London, one of the integral restaurants within the area, being housed within ME.  Radio Rooftop Bar is the cherished breakfast spot with some of the best views of London available from its patio-heater-heated terrace.  And then there is another favourite, Luciano by Gino D’Acampo.  The TV personality has chalked up a masterful menu along with his team of talented chefs and the result is authentic Italian food that is further supplanted by some brilliant Italian service.  A rather charming cocktail bar sits elegantly on the side and adds to the beautiful setting which ensnares patrons late into the wee hours of the of weekend mornings.

In a city that is seems saturated with iconic hotels, ME London proves that there is still room at the top.  It is a London hotel par excellence which thoroughly deserves to celebrate its 10th year in the business.
