Local Writer Alert

We are very excited about Kensington & Chelsea Review’s upcoming interview with local writer Edward Charles Featherstone (a pseudonym, we’ll refer to him as Charles) – it will go online shortly and in print next month.  It will invove talk about his debut novel My Rude Awakening, releasing TODAY 3rd October, an intimate glimpse into the formative years of a young man navigating the challenges of his traditional upbringing, friendships and relationships.

A high-profile, upper-class man from a traditional English family, Charles started dating his best friend’s mother when he was just 20 and she was 43. The scandalous affair began when Charles trained to be an RAF pilot and made great friends with another pilot Jamie. Weekends at Jamie’s house led to Charles sneaking around with Jamie’s mother who he quickly became preoccupied with. With her enticing looks, down-to-earth manner and charm Charles soon became in awe of the family’s dynamic which was completely different to his formal family life.

Now living in his Chelsea house, he reflects on how this five-year long relationship shaped his understanding of love, identity, and maturity. My Rude Awakening describes Charles’s affair in a graphic and detailed way, sharing their intimate scenes and how their relationship developed. The memoir is honest with no secret left untold, it’s fiery and outrageous and will leave you captivated (and maybe shocked).

Born from the intensely personal notebooks he kept during therapy, My Rude Awakening is a passionate and audacious coming-of-age memoir, offering an intimate glimpse into the formative years of the heir to Rockwell Manor, Edward Charles Featherstone. The eclectic account of his life includes his fascinating and privileged upbringing, the intense but glamourous world of polo, the gritty reality of military service as a combat helicopter pilot in the Royal Air Force, and many more jaw-dropping moments; but it’s actually an unexpected and scandalous love affair with an older woman that becomes Charles’ most significant step into adulthood.

Sharing secrets from the sky, the bedroom, the polo field and beyond, this incredible memoir also captures the darker elements of Charles’s life, with a distressing retelling of a harrowing helicopter accident and the tragic loss of a close friend – adding depth to a memoir that is as much about survival and resilience as it is about sexual awakening and adventure.

My Rude Awakening is a based on a true story, told with a boldness and candour that is both outrageous and scandalous, promising to captivate, shock, and enlighten in equal measure.

Note: Edward Charles Featherstone is a pseudonym for a hugely successful international entrepreneur. Having grown up amongst immense privilege in the bucolic English countryside, he went on to enjoy an unrivalled education, both academically and socially. The lessons he learnt from these teachers would guide him throughout the rest of his life as he triumphed on the polo field, as a combat helicopter pilot, and in business, with interesting romantic liaisons along the way.
