Luxuriating Again at 11 Cadogan Gardens
One thing’s for sure; we’re royally spoilt for grandly luxurious hotel experiences in the Royal Borough. Having covered some of the best hotels in London for Kensington and Chelsea Review in the last 15 years, it’s not a coincidence that some of our favourites are very much familiar, local superstars. Reflecting back on all the brilliance on offer in our neck of the woods, one hotel that always stands out as an incandescent and indelible memory is the ever-impressive 11 Cadogan Gardens. A boutique masterpiece and Relais & Châteaux’s first London property, the property just of Sloane Street is a top choice no matter what the criteria. It’s number one in terms of location, deserves a gold for its F&B offerings and elicits a straight A* in luxury and service. Built by Lord Chelsea in the late 19th century as part of the prestigious Cadogan Estate, it’s dramatic opulence is instantly palpable, a direct legacy of it’s beginnings as a private club for the upper classes. We went back to one of our favourite haunts in SW3 to re-experience the ecstasy.

Having thoroughly loved Room 007 the last couple of times – the Bondesque signature suite with it’s own private entrance – it was time to dial a different gem from the 56 rooms and suites on offer. The privilege was all ours to experience the regal space that is Suite 005. Complete with red velvet touches adorning its lush ambience, the suite is a testament to the hotel’s firm commitment to pomp and luxury. From the grandiose four-posted bed to the plush sofa and vintage cupboards, the suite has a unique and distinct personality, something that is the hallmark of suites at this property. The luxury and exoticism is further enhanced by a marble bathroom that sports some gorgeous Noble Isle toiletries and is conveniently recessed from the main space courtesy of a cute mini-closet for towels and little indulgences.

Just a note to say that several of the 25 suites have private entrances and there are one-bedroom Cadogan Suites in the lovely mews building which overlooks Pavilion Road that are perfect for longer stays. The gorgeous Sloane Suite that overlooks Cadogan Gardens and the lavish Velasquez Suite firmly represent the elegant style and decadent class of 11 Cadogan Gardens

Outside of the luscious living spaces, the hotel is alive and ready for all manner of indulgences. Top of the offerings is culinary genius at is Hans’ Bar & Grill restaurant – formerly an Italian restaurant – that delivers on its promise of using the best British produce for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Named after Sir Hans Sloane, the Chelsea physician who famously supplied the original recipe to Messrs Cadbury no less, the menu, unsurprisingly, features chocolatey treats.

For amazing cocktails, head to The Chelsea Bar and savour its signature specials like the “Cadogan Negroni” with Campari, Cognac XO, Apricot Liqueur and Peychaud’s Bitters to the “Pickled Negroni” with Lustau Sherry, Campari, and Pickled Grapefruit. The Terrace is a summer haven to soak up the glorious sunshine whilst The Drawing Room offers an ultra-cosy setting to indulge in some afternoon tea. The Mirror Room is a psychedelic confluence for influencers which also doubles as a secret entrance to two Cadogan suites whilst The Library is a zen-space with an extensive collection of historic and antique books, some dating back to the 19th century.

11 Cadogan Gardens is the perfect boutique hotel for the discerning KCR reader. Each year in May, for Chelsea in Bloom, the property adorns its red brick exterior in themed floral displays and has previously won Gold for their “Under The Sea” extravaganza, a design resplendent with corals and ocean floor treasures, unusual plant varieties and fresh cut flowers. It’s a Gold as usual from Kensington and Chelsea Review for one of our favourite hotels.
