Yi Hotel in Mykonos opens its doors to travelers seeking a boutique getaway

In July 2023 I had the joy of staying in the all-new boutique retreat, Yi Hotel Mykonos. If you’re a cosmopolitan traveler like me, seeking a luxurious escape, this idyllic haven of comfort, tranquility, and sophistication promises to be the perfect destination. With its prime location atop the hill of Elia Beach, Yi Hotel Mykonos offers breathtaking views of the mesmerizing Aegean Sea, creating an unforgettable setting.

As I entered the resort, to welcome me first was the design – a seamless blend of transcendent minimalism and elegance, evident in each of its 42 well-appointed guest rooms and suites, all of which come with private pools and hot tubs. It’s truly a place where I felt that I can unwind and embrace the interconnectedness of earth, wind, and water, signified by the name “Yi,” which means “earth” and “land” in Greek and “one” in Japanese. The bridge connecting the reception area and restaurant to the rooms is neatly in the shape of a “Y”, walking over which you can take two ways up to your room, one for each diversion of the “Y”.

I absolutely relished the dining experience at Sibà Restaurant, overseen by the renowned chef George Stylianoudakis. His culinary expertise, honed from iconic establishments worldwide, shines through in the harmonious fusion of Cycladic and Cretan cuisines. The use of fresh, locally-sourced ingredients from Mykonos’ farms ensures a distinctive culinary journey that beautifully blends tradition with contemporary techniques.

For breakfast, I started the day with local pastry delights and classic holiday-essentials, like pancakes with fruit. Lunch dishes were enchanting, from the tomato salad with hand-picked baby tomatoes to the mizithra cheese tarts and the traditional Saint Galini Kakavia dish. During the day, I indulged in detox smoothies, and when the night fell, the masterful mixology at the pool bar added an extra layer of enjoyment to my stay.

At Yi Hotel Mykonos, wellness takes center stage. The Oasis spa offers an array of rejuvenating treatments inspired by the elements of earth, wind, fire, and water. I found the Mykonian Detox Bliss, featuring 24k gold, aloe vera, and calendula extracts, particularly revitalising for my skin. The Remedy Massage with coffee and orange essential oils was another favorite, as it left me feeling refreshed and invigorated.

The hotel’s design draws inspiration from traditional Mykonian architecture, featuring curved walls, airy openings, and statement furniture. Minimalist designs with a neutral palette of wood, straw, and terracotta are accented with colours inspired by nature, such as blue glass reflecting the sea’s hues and pistachio doors and windows reminiscent of olive trees. The property also incorporates natural wood shading structures that mimic trees, providing shelter and creating a captivating focal point.

With exclusive concierge service, my stay at Yi Hotel Mykonos was made even more enjoyable. The islanders on the team were eager to craft unforgettable experiences tailored to my preferences. From dining recommendations to securing entry to trendy clubs, they offered a wide range of activities, including full-day boat trips to Delos and Rinia Island or delightful picnics on sandy beaches. For adventure seekers, quad biking, horseback riding, and olive oil tasting are just some of the exciting options. Music enthusiasts like me can even indulge in one-on-one DJ lessons with the hotel’s resident DJ, providing a unique opportunity to learn from the best in Mykonos’ vibrant party scene.
